The history of Japan's construction equipment started after World War II.
For the restoration of land, mechanization was implemented for construction work
concerning electric power and land development for forest conservation and flood
control, etc.
In 1948, the Ministry of Construction budgeted the construction equipment maintenance
expense and brought about the full scale development of construction equipment.
In the beginning, bulldozers, etc., disposed by the U.S. Army was introduced.
Nationalization was then promoted and the development of construction equipment
suitable for the Japanese land was launched. |

The Japanese economy entered the high growth period and the government executed
public works focusing on the national life and the development and maintenance
of industrial foundation.
Construction equipment has contributed to the development and maintenance of the
social infrastructure such as traffic networks including roads, ports and railroads,
forest conservation and flood control including dams and sand control dams as
well as water resource development, agriculture land development, land improvement
work, etc.
Private enterprises also made sizeable equipment investments for the improvement
of industrial sites, construction of plants and maintenance of industrial waterworks,
in which many construction machines were used. |

The economy shifted from the high growth period to the stable growth period. In
order to realize richer living standards, maintenance of living environment such
as water and sewerage, parks, etc., was carried out.
Construction equipment played an important role to realize a rich living environment.
Development for compact machines such as the mini excavator suitable for
use in small city environments increased. |

For the creation of a better city environment, new construction equipment such
as special attachments for the demolition of decrepit buildings in need of redevelopment,
propulsion machines that lay sewerage pipes without having to excavate roads,
etc., were developed.
By use of electronic control and utilization of new materials and technologies,
performance was greatly improved and development of equipment also superior in
design was started. |

Under the new concept the "City harmony and user-friendly machines," full-scale
development of equipment superior in design, comfort and controllability was launched.
Stronger correspondence to the earth environment is being made including such
issues as emission regulation, complete banning of specific halon, CFC and trichloroethane,
etc.

With the ever-increasing number of urban-type construction projects, the industry
has been tackling various environmental issues such as sound suppession machines,
friendly appearance, energy saving mobile crushers, etc.
We are making efforts towards establishing a design concept that takes into consideration
influences to the environment from the development stage, such as the standardization
of parts to facilitate reusing them and the adoption of designs which facilitate
breaking down used machines. |

The industry has carried on research and development on intelligent machines,
like robots, in its effort to develop unattended or remote controlled systems
utilizing artificial satellites in the near future. |
