Contribution to forest development KOBELCO CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY CO., LTD.

Carbon offset in forestry machinery

Kobelco Construction Machinery launched the Kobelco "Carbon Offset" program on October 1, 2013, a unique program that utilizes the carbon offset system and enables the Company to contribute even more to the prevention of global warming and improvement of forest environments. In 2015, the Company was awarded the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award at the “5th Carbon Offset Awards”, in recognition of its steady efforts.
In 2018, KCM also won the Tohoku Support Award at the "3rd Tohoku Region Carbon Offset Grand Prix", which is administered by the Tohoku Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Carbon offsetting means offsetting all or part of the amount of greenhouse gases (including CO2) emitted (and irreducible) by oneself with the amount of such gases reduced elsewhere.
The Kobelco "Carbon Offset" program provides KCM forestry machines with forest absorption credits, which certifies greenhouse gas emission reductions and absorption. The credits are issued through the J-credit system by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of the Environment, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
With these credits, the customers can offset part of the greenhouse gases emitted by their machine’s operations every year. Customers are also able to choose issuing entities or projects of credits, and as such they make contributions to their preferred forestry development program(s) in Japan.

Improving the environment by adopting its unique technologyNippon Pneumatic Mfg.Co.,Ltd.

Adoption of its booster increases speed and power, while reducing load on hydraulic excavators

Nippon Pneumatic Kogyo (NPK) has been actively promoting the adoption of its boosters for demolition machines.
NPK's booster is a mechanism that increases the internal pressure of a cylinder to the level and at the timing needed. The booster has been made compact enough to be mounted on a demolition machine, which is a one-of-a-kind proprietary technology of NPK.
Adopting this booster enables the use of a cylinder (actuator) with a reduced diameter, which helps to increase speed and power, while reducing load on the hydraulic excavator.
Demolition machines equipped with these boosters are registered with NETIS (New Technology Information System) provided by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The machines are also registered as fuel-efficient construction machines as part of the low-carbon equipment introduction project led by the Ministry of the Environment, with their improvement effects on the environment. This includes "reduction of construction period" and "reduction of fuel consumption = reduction of CO2 emissions", which have been recognized by public institutions.
NPK will continue to pursue solutions under the catchphrase "For everyone's tomorrow — Technology that opens up the future."
