UNDP-JICA Public-Private Partnership Seminar: "The Intersection of International Cooperation and Business" Convened

On Tuesday, June 2, a public-private partnership seminar co-hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was held, with CEMA participating as a key partner organization.

The seminar featured a total of six sessions focusing on recovery and reconstruction in countries and regions affected by crises, such as conflicts and natural disasters—including Ukraine, Gaza, and Syria. The discussions covered various aspects, including business opportunities and financing, and drew a large attendance from our association's member companies.

Following the opening remarks by the Director of the UNDP Representation Office in Tokyo, the Deputy Directors-General from both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), as well as the Director General of JICA, Mr. Yokomori, Chairperson, Management Board, International Committee, delivered an opening address on behalf of the association.

During the panel discussion on the Japanese private sector as a partner in reconstruction, Mr. Kosaka from KOBELCO CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY CO., LTD., a member of CEMA, took the stage to introduce their remote-controlled construction machinery systems and explain how they are being utilized to support the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Active discussions took place across the other sessions as well. During the Q&A session of the financing and risk management segment, CEMA highlighted the significance of the Cape Town Convention and the MAC Protocol in recovery and reconstruction projects.

Furthermore, a proposal was made to establish a platform for information sharing and opinion exchange among stakeholders, aimed at internationally expanding Japan's expertise and technologies in disaster recovery and reconstruction.
